Kislaya Nursery School, established in 1967 and situated within the IIT Kanpur campus, continues to set benchmarks in pre-primary education, guided by the philosophy of Joyful Learning. The academic session 2024-25 witnessed a steady increase in student strength, which led to the expansion of the teaching staff from 6 to 8 members. This growth reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to providing individualized attention and nurturing a culturally rich, developmentally appropriate environment for every child.
During the academic year 2024–25, Kislaya Nursery School undertook several infrastructure improvements to enhance comfort and organization. These included the installation of 9 exhaust fans and 13 wall-mounted fans in classrooms to manage summer heat, construction of 2 new storerooms for efficient supply management, renovation of the school office with new tiling, and the addition of a stepwise staircase for the stage based on parent feedback to support student performances.
Academically, the school operated 3 Nursery sections, 2 KG sections, and 2 Prep sections, with a total student strength of 186. All admissions and fee transactions were carried out through cashless systems, ensuring transparency and ease. The dedicated team of eight teachers continued to provide a nurturing environment that combined emotional support, foundational learning, and cultural values, making education a joyful and enriching experience for every child.
Throughout the academic year 2024-25, Kislaya Nursery School organized a vibrant array of hands-on activities designed to nurture creativity, imagination, and essential life skills in our young learners.These activities encouraged exploration, teamwork, and sensory development, making learning both meaningful and joyous. These included collage work, freehand drawing and colouring, origami, clay modelling, diya and candle decoration, and various forms of printing arts such as thumb, vegetable, cotton, and bud printing. Pasting activities using matchsticks, glitter, buttons, paper, and bindis enhanced fine motor skills and attention to detail. Celebratory crafts like Mother’s Day card making and rakhi making nurtured emotional expression and cultural awareness. Themed sessions such as the transport activity and storytelling with props enriched conceptual understanding and imagination. Regular poem recitation boosted confidence and language development, while simple science experiments ignited curiosity and a love for discovery. Educational excursions like the zoo trip to Allen Forest Zoo in Kanpur and the Children’s Day picnic at Park No. 67 offered experiential learning and social interaction. Festive events such as the Christmas Bounce House Day brought joy and added to the vibrant learning environment.
Sports and physical activities are an essential part of life at Kislaya Nursery School, with every Thursday dedicated to Sports and PT sessions under the guidance of Coach Jay Tripathi. The much-awaited Annual Sports Day, held in November 2024, was a grand celebration of spirit and healthy competition, where every child participated with enthusiasm and joy. Highlights of the year included the March-Past, Mass PT, aerobics, taekwondo, the ever-popular KG football match, and a variety of competitive races such as the balloon race, hurdle race, and even a tug of war for parents. Through these activities, children not only developed coordination, endurance, and physical confidence but also learned the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork making sports at Kislaya a foundation for healthy habits and joyful learning.
Celebrating festivals builds cultural awareness and emotional connections. Kislaya believes in experiential learning through stories, costumes, dance, and food.
Kislaya believes in learning through joyful experiences, where celebration becomes learning in disguise. This year, the school organized the Lemonade Party, where children mixed and served lemonade, learning teamwork and responsibility. The Mango Party introduced students to different mango varieties while helping them understand fruits and seasonal changes. These fun-filled activities supported the development of motor skills, food awareness, and sharing habits, while fostering joyful peer interactions.
The Annual Function was held on 1st March 2025 at IIT Kanpur’s Main Auditorium, with 100% student participation—a proud Kislaya tradition. Dance teachers Gautam Srivastava and Rohith Shah choreographed a range of lively performances. Highlights included Saraswati Vandana, a play on Subhash Chandra Bose, salsa, folk dances, and theme-based acts on Krishna and environmental awareness. The event concluded with prize distribution and refreshments for the students. The enthusiasm, joy, and appreciation from parents made it a truly memorable celebration.
