Prof. Ashok Kumar Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, is conferred with the honorary doctorate in the field of technology D.Sc.(tech) by Aalto University, Finland. His area of research focuses on developing a new generation of cryogel biomaterials, smart polymeric materials, and nanomaterials for various applications in biotechnology and biomedical engineering.

IITK alumnus, Aditya Srivastava (BT/MT/EE/2018/2019) topped UPSC 2023 with AIR #1. He graduated in Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering from the institute in 2018 and M.Tech in 2019 respectively.

IITK signed an MoU with Engineers India Limited (EIL) to form the IITK-EIL Clean Energy Research Center, which will address two of the important thrust areas - green hydrogen, and carbon sequestration, along with conversion of the same to value-added products or even fuels.

The inauguration of the New Swimming Pool facility was done in the graceful presence of Prof. S. C3i Hub IIT Kanpur launched startup cohorts III, IV, and V at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi. Funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, under the NM-ICPS Mission, C3iHub presented 19 startups in the Startup Incubation Program, specializing in specific cybersecurity areas including Application Security, Integrated SOC Solution, Cyber Forensics, Blockchain Technology, UAV Security, IoT Security, and Cyber Insurance.

Prof. Bushra Ateeq, professor at the BSBE department of IITK got awarded the Rajib Goyal prize for Young scientists in Life Sciences 2024. She is the Senior Fellow of DBT/Wellcome Trust India Alliance. She completed her masters and PhD from Aligarh Muslim University in 1997 and 2003 respectively.

IIT Kanpur’s Techkriti '24, Asia's one of the largest annual technical and entrepreneurial festivals, started with its 30th edition from 14-17th March 2024. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Prof. S. IIT Kanpur hosted an evening dedicated to the introduction of the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, and the Yadupati Singhania Super Specialty Hospital to industry leaders and dignitaries from the state of Uttar Pradesh on 15th March 2024. The Counselling Service, IIT Kanpur organized a ‘Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training’ in collaboration with professionals from the Suicide Prevention India Foundation (SPIF) on March 13th and 14th. This training was aimed at equipping its community members with vital skills to support individuals in crisis situations. IITKis committed to promote a supportive, inclusive, and academically empowering environment that prioritizes the mental and emotional well-being of every individual in the institute community.

IIT Kanpur officially launched its Air Sampling Device, titled the 'Multiple Slit Nozzle-based High Volume PM2.5 Impactor Assembly,' developed by Prof. Tarun Gupta. The device is designed to collect samples for assessing various air parameters, including respirable air quality, ambient air monitoring and sampling, and quantitative evaluations of air pollutants. With this technology, the overall aim is to empower communities with accurate and accessible tools for monitoring air quality, ultimately fostering a healthier environment for all.

The IITK delegation visited Geneva, Switzerland including IITK Director Prof. S. Ganesh, Prof. Ashok Kumar and Prof. Sandeep Verma where our alumni Diwakar Dixit, Pranav Rai, Atul Kumar Sinha, Rohan Singh and Saurabh Joshi shared their experiences. They also met Shri Arindam Bagchi, India's Ambassador and Permanent Representative. They had fruitful discussions with Dr. Giovanni Anelli, Head of the Knowledge Transfer Group, Dr. Tim Smith, Head of the Collaboration and Information Services Group, and Mr. Martin Gastal, Project and Operations Engineer at CERN. Prof. Archana Sharma, Senior Advisor of International Relations and Head of the Engagement Office at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) also joined them.

IITK signed a MoU with Fondazione Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica (CNAO) in Pavia, Italy, to establish a joint research programme. The MoU was signed by me and Prof. Gianluca Vago, President of Fondazione CNAO - Centro Nazionale di Adroterapia Oncologica, in the presence of Prof. Sandro Rossi, General Director, Prof. Lisa Licitra, Scientific Director, Prof. Ester Oriandi, Clinical Director, Dr. Mario Ciocca, Medical Physics, Dr. Andrea Pella, Head of Clinical Bioengineering R&D, and Dr. Angelica Facoetti, Head Radiology Unit.

Dr. Rajeev Gautam (BT/ChE/1974) generously contributed 250,000 USD to establish three endowed programs focused on promoting research and education in the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, which will support the establishment of Om Prakash Gautam Endowed Faculty Chair, Rajeev and Joyce Gautam Faculty Fellowship and Rajeev and Joyce Gautam travel grant for students. An MoU was signed by Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources and Alumni and Dr. Gautam on 24 February.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to collaborate in the R&D efforts of UP Digital Health Stack (UP-DHS) under National Health Stack (NHS) program of The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The partnership between the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT Kanpur and the Uttar Pradesh Government will enhance healthcare delivery by integrating AI into telehealth and point-of-care diagnostics. The MoU was signed by Prof. Sandeep Verma, Professor-In-Charge, Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology, and Shri Ranjan Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in the presence of honorable Deputy Chief Minister Shri Brajesh Pathak.

In the graceful presence of Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources and Alumni, Prof. Ashish Garg, Professor-in-Charge, Kotak School of Sustainability at IIT Kanpur, Mr. Kapil Kaul, CEO, IITK Development Foundation and alumni of The Class of 1974, Mr. Bhadresh Shah (BT/MME/1974), Managing Director, AIA Engineering Ltd., inaugurated a 200 KW Rooftop Solar PV Plant installed on the terrace of the New Core Lab on 23 February. 10 Invertors, each with a capacity of 20 KW are installed in this plant. It is expected to reduce carbon footprint on the campus by 233.60 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide per annum.

On its 50th reunion held at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, the Class of 1974 joined hands to pledge Rs. 10.11 Cr. to support its Alma mater. This landmark pledge by the graduates of '74 demonstrates their unwavering dedication and commitment to IIT Kanpur. This contribution will significantly impact the Institute, ensuring a legacy that will continue to benefit the IITK community, providing opportunities to students and faculty.

Under its CSR initiative, NMTronics India Pvt. Ltd. signed an MoU with Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur to establish NMTronics Center of Excellence for Electronics Manufacturing at IITK. Mr. Soni Saran Singh, MD, NMTronics, talks about the significance of this Center, stating that the Center will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge technology with fully automated SMT Line. The Center aims to propel groundbreaking research, technological advancements, and skill development initiatives in electronic manufacturing through IIT Kanpur learning & development program.

IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with Conlis Global Inc. for licensing of an innovative new technology titled "Nano Hydroxyapatite Based Porous Polymer Composite Scaffolds for Bioactive Molecule Delivery in Musculoskeletal Regeneration" to Conlis Global Inc., a biotechnology company based in Canada. The MoU was exchanged between Prof. Tarun Gupta, Dean of Research and Development, IITK and Dr. Sumrita Bhat, CEO, Conlis Global Inc. The technology has been developed by Prof. Ashok Kumar, Department of Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, and his team of researchers.

Our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji inaugurated the campus of Indian Institute of Skills Kanpur at NSTI. IIT Kanpur had signed an MoU with Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur, in which IIT Kanpur will mentor IIS Kanpur to Establish State-of-the-art Laboratories and Cutting-Edge Curriculum. The MoU was inked in the presence of Hon'ble Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Ji, Ministry of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India on 9th November 2023. The partnership is aimed at building capacities and meeting the aspirations of India's youth by upskilling the working force and the youth of our country.

IIT Kanpur hosted a dynamic brainstorming session on ocular gene therapy where renowned ophthalmologists, including Dr. Gopal Lingam, Dr. Pramod Bhende, Dr. Sripriya S from Sankara Nethralaya, Dr. Vikram Mathews, and Dr. Deepa John from CMC Vellore, along with Dr. Raja Narayanan and Dr. Srikanta Padhy from L V Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad/Bhubaneswar, and Dr. Radhika Tandon and Dr. Pradeep Venkatesh from AIIMS came together to deliberate on the path forward for gene therapy clinical trials for Leber Congenital Amaurosis 2, a severe inherited retinal degeneration with a typical presentation between birth and age five years, causing severe visual impairment.

Every year, the institute hosts the Institute Flower Show at the Institute Nursery to celebrate the arrival of spring. The Institute Flower Show was held on 17-18 Feb. It was a pleasure to see the spectacular display of beautiful flora and flowers. The Women's Association, IIT Kanpur hosted a fair with delicious food stalls, games stalls, puppet show, and an art competition, as well as a variety of fun activities for children such as Jump, Bounce and Play on a Bouncy Castle, which drew enthusiastic participation from campus residents.

IIT Kanpur has signed an MoU with the Lucknow Cantonment Board to serve as the knowledge partner in their joint mission to achieve a waste-free and carbon-neutral campus, aiming to create a scalable model in line with India’s vision of achieving net zero emissions by 2070.

IIT Kanpur observed the Annual Day of the institute’s Cell for Differently Abled Persons (CDAP) on January 13, 2024, highlighting the significance of the day by focusing on the use of sign language. The Annual Day was inaugurated with a lamp-lighting ceremony by Prof. S. Ganesh, Director, IIT Kanpur; Prof. Anubha Goel, Member of CDAP; and the chief guest, Ms. Manpreet Kaur Kalra, Secretary, Divyang Development Society, Kanpur.

Prof. Siddhartha Panda from the Department of Chemistry showcased his innovative technological devices, including the Haptic Smartwatch and Braille Learning Device, while Dr. Ashutosh Modi from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering discussed the applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the realm of sign language.

Prof. Shalabh Shalabh, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, received the Professor K. Srinivasa Rao Best Researcher Award 2023 of Indian Society of Probability and Statistics for his significant contribution in the field of Statistics. Specializing in Statistics and Econometrics.

Prof. Shantanu Bhattacharya, a senior faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is appointed as the Director of CSIR – Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO), Chandigarh.

Prof. Sameer Khandekar was a highly dynamic and enthusiastic person, he was not just an excellent faculty, but also deeply into music, art, and culture, which led him to establish the APPROACH Cell at IITK. He believed in inclusivity and right to education for every child as he dedicatedly devoted much of his time at Shiksha Sopan, providing education to many underprivileged children in the most creative ways.

Prof. T. R. Viswanathan., affectionately known as TRV, was one of the founding faculty members at IIT Kanpur in the 1960's. He was a professor in Electrical Engineering Dept., Head, Computer Centre, and Dean of R&D at the Institute. Dr. Viswanathan spent 15 years in research and development, product design, manufacturing, and management in the industry. IITK recently instituted Prof. T. R. Viswanathan Chair and Prof T. R. Viswanathan Young Faculty Fellowship in Teaching Excellence in his honor. His seminal contributions in the early years of IITK paved a way for stronger foundations on which the Institute now proudly stands.

Prof. Mukesh Sharma, Department of Civil Engineering, got reappointed (for two years) as an honorary member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Air Pollution and Health - Technical Advisory Group (GAPH-TAG).

IIT Kanpur participated in the Annual Meeting of the Shraman Foundation along with esteemed institutions from across India, including 15 IITs, 9 NITs, 3 IISERs, various regional institutes, and corporate & charitable organizations. The discussions centered on addressing the challenges faced by students, especially those from humble backgrounds, and exploring collaborative solutions to nurture talents effectively. IITK proudly signed an MoU with the Shraman Foundation, and through this collaboration, IITK has supported an impressive count of 121 talented students with a total fund of Rs 42 lakhs. Together, we aim to empower and foster young minds and talents that undoubtedly make a substantial difference.

IIT Kanpur and Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited (KMBL) launched the Kotak School of Sustainability - India’s first fully integrated school of sustainability at IIT Kanpur in the presence of Shri. Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India as the chief guest; and Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, and Shri. Nagendra Nath Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, as guests of honor. Kotak and IITK believe that this School, with a vision to promote pedigree education, research, and outreach, will offer thought leadership solutions towards sustainability actions and prepare future generations to lead the cause of sustainable development. The Kotak School of Sustainability, funded through KMBL’s CSR program, will have dedicated centers of excellence covering different aspects of sustainability such as clean energy, environment, ecology, circular economy, climate finance, sustainable societies, and policy.

IIT Kanpur recently took part in Global Technology Summit- PI-WOT 2023 held in Bengaluru. The institute highlighted the significant work done by Cyber Security Center, Startup Incubator and Innovation Center, and Technopark IITK. Prof. Nitin Saxena, Coordinator, Center for Developing Intelligent Systems (CDIS), IITK, delivered a keynote speech on "How Indian academia is harnessing AI for social transformation." Prof. Siddhartha Panda, Dept. of Chemical Engineering, IITK, participated in a panel discussion on "Frugal Innovations for Masses. Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, CEO, FIRST, IITK, led a panel discussion on "Digital identity for a global landscape." PI-WOT 2023 was attended by industry leaders from Hexaware, Infosys, and alumni across the globe. The prestigious South Asian Forum on the Acquisition and Processing of Language (SAFAL) marked its fourth edition with a transformative gathering hosted at IIT Kanpur. Collocated with the forthcoming 10th Annual Conference of Cognitive Science (ACCS-X), SAFAL 2023 opened with Prof. Narayanan Srinivasan, Head of the Department of Cognitive Science, welcoming attendees to an enriching experience filled with keynotes and discussions. The Department of Economic Sciences, IIT Kanpur, hosted Arthashashtra-2023, its annual conference on economics, business, and finance, bringing together eminent speakers from the industry to discuss a range of pressing topics, including globalization, technological innovation, the future of work, financial volatility, leadership, banking stability, and India's economic resilience amid global uncertainty. The Campus School at IIT Kanpur orchestrated Saptrang-2023, a Sports and Cultural Fest, to mark the significant milestone of sixty years since its establishment. Sports Day unfolded with the ceremonial inauguration by Prof. Kantesh Balani, the Dean of Resources and Alumni IIT Kanpur, and Prof. Niraj Sinha, PI to Campus School Governing Board. Prof. Anantharaj Sengeni, Department of Chemistry, gets selected as an Associate of the Indian Academy of Sciences for the period of 2023 to 2026. Prof. Sengeni's research interests include Electrochemistry, Catalysis at Electrified Interfaces, Energy Conversion and Storage, Inorganic Materials, Energy and Materials Chemistry, and is currently working in the area of energy-efficient production of H2 via water electrolysis (WE) for over a decade.

Prof. Sandeep Verma, Department of Chemistry, on being selected for the Professor D. P. Chakraborty 60th Birth Anniversary Commemoration Award of the Indian Chemical Society. Prof. Verma has been selected for this endowment to further his research in the fields of Bioorganic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biological Materials Science.

A two day (November 27th to 28th ) workshop was organized at La Trobe University served as an important platform for Research Academy researchers to have face-to-face interaction to discuss research ideas, joint supervision and a way forward aligned with the objectives of the Academy.

IIT Kanpur proudly showcased a groundbreaking advancement in UAV technology during 1 Base Repair Depot (BRD) Kanpur Platinum Jubilee celebrations at the Air Force Station Kanpur, attended by esteemed Indian Air Force officers. This innovative demonstration, led by Prof. Ketan Rajawat, highlighted a sophisticated scalable UAV swarm system integrating 10 UAVs.

Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur, collaborated with SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India) to showcase its innovation capabilities at the World Congress 2023 of the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF) in Durban, South Africa. The showpiece event witnessed the transformative prowess of five Indian start-ups incubated at SIIC, IIT Kanpur, highlighting India's technological advancements on a global platform.

Prof. Ashok Kumar, Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, is elected as a Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering by the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering.

The inaugural session of the W.IS.E. program (Women In Science & Engineering) was held on 27 Nov. 2023. Instituted by IITK Distinguished Alumna, Ms. Anjali Joshi, the program aims to create a platform that not only celebrates women's achievements but also provides the necessary tools and support for their continued success in sciences & engineering.

Panel discussion was held on STEM education for girls: Encouraging young women to pursue science & engineering. Led by Dr. Urbi Chatterjee as the moderator, the panelist consisted of Ms. Sonam Srivastava, Founder, Wright Research; Ms. Riya Bhattacharya, Founder, RIO Money Ex-Leadership @NAVI; Dr. Ritika Gautam, Assistant Professor, IITK; Ms. Neha Verma as the keynote speaker, and Ms. Rashie Jain, Co-founder & CEO, Onco, as a special guest.

Prof. Sachchida Nand Tripathi and Prof. Arun Shukla are bestowed with the coveted Infosys Prize 2023 in the categories of 'Engineering and Computer Science' and 'Life Sciences' respectively. Prof. Tripathi, Dept. of Civil Engineering and Sustainable Energy Engineering, has received this recognition for the deployment of large-scale sensor-based air quality network and mobile laboratory for hyper local measurements of pollution, data generation and analysis using artificial intelligence and machine learning for effective air quality management and citizens awareness. Prof. Shukla, BSBE Dept, has been awarded for his outstanding and far-reaching contributions to the field of G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) biology. His work has opened up previously uncharted avenues for designing novel and effective therapeutics.

The Physics Dept. held its first talk under the newly instituted Prof. Rakesh Popli and Mrs. Rama Popli Distinguished Lecture Series on Common Man Science by Prof. H C Verma. His talk focused on science using kitchen materials showcasing the scientific phenomena of physics, chemistry, and biology. Mrs. Rama Popli visited the Institute with her children, Dr. Abhimanyu Popli and Ms. Shivaranjani Popli Verma, who established this lecture series under their parents' names. The Popli family also had the opportunity to visit Shiksha Sopan and Rozi Shikasha Kendra.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur celebrated its 64th Foundation Day on 2nd November, 2023 by honoring the contributions of its alumni who have left their indelible mark in their chosen fields of profession. The Chief Guest & Secretary in Department of Science and Technology Prof. Abhay Karandikar graced the event along with IIT Kanpur Director Prof. S. Ganesh, Dean of Resources & Alumni Prof. Kantesh Balani, and Dean of Faculty Affairs Prof. Nishanth Nair.
The prestigious Institute Fellow Award was conferred upon Prof. Deepak Kunzru, Prof. Achla Misri Raina, Shri Rakesh Gangwal and Shri Muktesh Pant.
The Distinguished Alumnus Award was conferred on Prof. Atish Dabholkar, Prof. Charu C. Aggarwal, Prof. Ashish Goel, Prof. Pankaj Jalote, Mr. Anup Bagchi, Mr. Prashant Jain, Mr. Durga Shankar Mishra, Prof. Yashwant Gupta, Dr. Renu Mehra, Mr. Rajnish Kumar, Mr. Venkat Krishnamurthy and, Mr. Anil Bansal. The Distinguished Service Award was conferred upon Mr. Jai Shankar Sharma and Mr. Gautam Khanna. The Young Alumnus Award was conferred upon Dr. Mohit Bansal and Dr. Pravesh K. Kothari. The Satyendra K. Dubey Memorial Award was conferred upon Mr. Somay Vinayak Munde and Mr. Ashok Kamath. A cultural event was held on the eve of the Foundation Day, 01. Nov. where prominent Kathak dancers performed and graced the event with their elegant dance.

Under CSR initiative, IIT Kanpur has signed an MoU with the tower research Capital Markets India and Tower Research Capital India for developing AI/ML for India and social good. Rs. 3 Crore project aims to reengineer public grievances systems, and redressal processes in Indian organizations, and develop an indigenous AI-based India stack for AI services. Centre for developing Intelligent systems (CDIS) at IITK wil develop a SAAS platform for common AI/ML use cases and serving AI/ML models specialized for the needs of India for the company.

Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal was elected as a Fellow of TWAS – The World Academy of Sciences, a program unit of UNESCO. TWAS is a global science academy for the advancement of science in developing countries, supporting sustainable prosperity through research, education, policy and diplomacy.

The Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra, IIT Kanpur, showcased a model of rural development in a unique ceremony in the presence of the Chief Guest Shri Durga Shankar Mishra, Hon. Chief Secretary of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and special guest Mr. Raju Jalan, Vice Chairman of Council of Leather. The doctoral students from IIT Kanpur demonstrated teaching the students at remote rural schools through the Online Rural Education Initiative (OREI) platform.
When the Chief Guest inquired about how the IIT Kanpur classes were benefiting them, the children responded enthusiastically, stating, "OREI classes make difficult concepts simple. The math classes are especially interesting, and we love them." He noted that OREI is a unique model supported by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and encouraged the RSK to expand its reach by connecting with more universities and aiming to reach 500 students by the following year. The Chief Guest also presided over the certificate distribution and award ceremony for Rozi Shiksha Kendra's skilling program. He emphasized that training in leather and garment industries is a wise choice, as they are also part of Kanpur district's ODOP (One District One Product) initiative.
Professor Subramaniam Ganesh, Officiating Director, IIT Kanpur, shared information on the inception of RSK and its remarkable progress in just two years, presenting a model of rural development, suggesting the state government to adopt this model and facilitate its expansion on a larger scale.

Mr. Rakesh Bhargava for instituting the Rakesh Bhargava-Class of 1973 Annual Travel Grant to support the Chemical Engineering Dept. at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. The grant will help the students promote excellence, facilitate research, and act as a major factor in improving the academic ranking of the Institute. He received his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from IITK in 1973.

Prof. Suresh Chandra Srivastava, Department of Electrical Engineering, and Director of the IIT Kanpur-La Trobe University Research Academy, has been awarded the Life Fellowship of IEEE USA.

On the birth anniversary of late Prof. Rakesh Popli, his family has instituted Prof. Rakesh Popli and Mrs. Rama Popli Distinguished Lecture Series in the Department of Physics, IITK. Dr. Abhimanyu Popli (PhD/ IITD), Ms. Shivaranjani Popli Verma (MT/EE/2011/IITK), and Mr. Divyantaran Popli (BT/CSE/2014/IITK), children of Prof. Popli and Mrs. Rama Popli established this lecture series with the aim to present excellent speakers describing “Common Man Science" in an engaging style with different perspectives. Leading scientists, researchers, technologists, innovators, entrepreneurs, change-makers and thought leaders are invited from all branches of science, technology, business, government, academia, and other fields.

Dr. Shubham Sahay, Department of Electrical Engineering, was selected as Young Associate of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE)- 2023. A senior member of the IEEE, Dr. Sahay's research interests lie in Hardware Platforms for Neuromorphic Computing, Hardware Security Primitives, Novel Device Architectures for Scaling CMOS Technology, Analytical and Compact Modeling of Semiconductor Devices, Non-volatile Memories, and Spintronics.

IITK faculty and alumnus, Prof. Jayant K. Singh on getting awarded the INAE-SERB Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship -2023. Prof. Singh, HoD of Chemical Engineering Dept., works in the areas of material modelling, machine learning, self-assembly, energy storage, wetting transition, selective adsorption and development of novel molecular simulations tool.

Prof. Nitin Saxena gets awarded the prestigious J.C. Bose Fellowship. Prof. Saxena, a Distinguished Alumnus of IITK, is a faculty at Computer Science & Engineering Dept., IITK, and works in the areas of Computational Complexity Theory, Algebra, Geometry and Number Theory.

Dr. Rahul Mangal has been selected as an Associate Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy - 2023. Dr. Mangal, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur, research interests are in the fields of Active Matter, Polymer Nano-Composites, Soft Matter, Rheology of Composites & Complex Fluids. He is a faculty in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering.

Mr. Gopal Sutwala and his family have donated Rs. 41 Lakhs to support treatment of patients from ‘Economically Weaker Section’ at the upcoming Yadupati Singhania Super Speciality Hospital of Gangwal School of Medical Sciences & Technology at IIT Kanpur. An MoU was signed between Sutwala family and IIT Kanpur to support the establishment of a bay within a general ward allocated for patients covered under different government health schemes at Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology with a 500 bedded Yadupati Singhania super-speciality hospital at IIT Kanpur.

The MoU was signed by Mr Gopal Sutwala and Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources and Alumni, IIT Kanpur in the presence of Prof. S. Ganesh, Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur, Prof. Sandeep Verma, Professor-in-Charge, Gangwal School of Medical Sciences & Technology, and Mr Purshottam Sutwala, brother of Mr. Gopal Sutwala.

Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Director of IIT Kanpur, has been appointed as the Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST, India). Prof. Karandikar is an alumnus of the institute and joined as its Director in 2018.

Prof. Nitin Saxena, Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering, and Prof. Bushra Ateeq, Dept. of Biological Sciences & Engineering, have been inducted as Fellows of Indian National Science Academy.

Prof. Nitin Saxena, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, received the 'IIT Bombay International Award for Excellence in Research in Engineering and Technology' for 2023 on Teachers’ Day. IIT Bombay has instituted this to be one of the most prestigious awards of Southeast Asia and it celebrates the contributions of researchers and academicians in engineering and technology who have made professional contributions over the last ten years with impact in the real world. The nominations are taken from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

IIT Kanpur celebrated Teachers' Day honoring some of the most esteemed faculty members for their unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions to knowledge sharing. The institute presented the Distinguished Teacher Award, Excellence-in-Teaching Awards, 1989 Batch Faculty Award, and acknowledged those who have served the institute for 25 years. Prof. Deepak Pathak from IIT Bombay was the Chief Guest. Prof. Phatak is known for inspiring generations of students and faculty. During the event, he graciously shared valuable insights from his life, enlightening us all. In the spirit of this special day, we took the opportunity to recognise.

An orientation session was held on Student Welfare Initiatives & Programs for the Y23 batch on 25 Aug. 2023. The aim of the session was to apprise first year students on various scholarships, awards, and other programs that are offered at the institute. Prof. Kantesh Balani, Dean of Resources & Alumni, addressed some key points, such as, student support programs, IITK alumni family, and the contributions by some major donors of the institute. The office of SSPC highlighted the importance of scholarships and how students could avail them. The session was attended by more than 250 students.

Prof. Nitin Gupta was selected for the S. Ramachandran National Bioscience Award. This award is given by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, to recognize scientists below 45 years of age who have made outstanding contributions in basic and applied research areas of biosciences and biotechnology, with potential for technology development.

Prof. Abhay Kanrandikar along with his team, held a series of alumni engagement events in San Francisco, Houston, and New York in August. These events provided an opportunity for our alumni to network and collaborate, and know about the latest developments at IITK.

Through the generous contributions of late Mr. Jay Pullur (MT/CSE/1987) and Mrs. Nirmala Pullur, IIT Kanpur established the 'Jay Pullur Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation Laboratory' in the Cognitive Science Department. This laboratory will focus on cutting-edge research in Brain Mapping & Stimulation, making valuable strides in neuroscience. The reading room in P K Kelkar Library has been renovated & equipped with new furniture as 'Jay Pullur Reading Room'. An endowment fund has been created to support & promote neuroscience research. The fund will be utilized to organize lecture series, provide student scholarships, and offer travel grants to research scholars, thereby fostering growth and innovation in the field.

Prof. Braj Bhushan, Department of Humanities & Social Science, has been elected as the Fellow of British Psychological Society. His outstanding work in areas like Affective Processing, Psychological Assessment, and Early Detection of Developmental Disorders, such as Autism, has been recognized and appreciated by the BPS.

IIT Kanpur held its 56thConvocation on 3 July 2023. Mr. N.R. Narayana Murthy, Co-founder & Chairman Emeritus, Infosys, was the invited Chief Guest. The institute awarded the Honoris Causa to Ms. M. C. Mary Kom Oly, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, and Mr. Natarajan Chandrasekaran. Farzan Adil Byramji, CSE Dept., received the President’s Gold Medal; Lakshay Rastogi, BSBE Dept., received the Director’s Gold Medal under 5-year Dual Degree Program; Ananya Gupta, CSE Dept., received the Director’s Gold Medal under 4-year UG Program; Nandita Gupta, MSE Dept., received the Ratan Swarup Memorial Prize; and Vineeth V, EE Dept., received the Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Medal.

The 9th International Yoga Day was celebrated on 21st June 2023 at IIT Kanpur. Embracing the theme of "Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," which signifies yoga for the well-being of all as one global family, the campus community wholeheartedly engaged in the yoga session led by Dr. S.L. Yadav, the yoga teacher at IIT Kanpur.

IIT Kanpur signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Laurus Labs.This collaboration is centered around licensing of gene therapy assets that have emerged from path-breaking research conducted by Prof Jayandharan Rao and his team. Under this partnership, Laurus Labs Ltd. will collaborate with IIT Kanpur to develop novel drugs based on gene therapy assets, focusing on treating challenging disorders such as retinal degeneration, hemophilia, and muscular dystrophy. The aim is to provide affordable treatment options not only in India but also in emerging markets.

The Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre (SIIC), IIT Kanpur, participated in the prestigious Incubators Connect Program organized by DWIH New Delhi in Germany from 4th- 9th June 2023. IIT Kanpur joined forces with leading incubators, Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs), and entrepreneurship-focused institutions to stimulate vibrant dialogues on internationalizing business incubators and foster stronger collaborations between India and Germany.

Dr Rajiv Bahl, Secretary to Government of India, Department of Health Research and Director General, ICMR, Delhi visited IIT Kanpur. Faculty members, students & start-ups of IIT Kanpur participated in the meeting to discuss & display the ICMR funded projects & the flagship projects of Gangwal School of Medical Sciences & Technology (GSMST).

The Department of Sustainable Energy Engineering, in collaboration with our SIIC, Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE), and Office of Dean R&D, organized the "World Environment Day" program. The event encompassed a wide range of activities designed to engage & educate participants on environmental protection.

DoRD and Technopark, IITK collaborated to celebrate National Technology Day and held series of talks focused on critical sectors of research and development, including healthcare , cybersecurity, defense, and clean tech. Speakers from IITK and industry shared their insights on pressing issues related to research and development.

Online Rural Education Initiative (OREI) by Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra at IITK has been adopted by the Department of Education in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative will be implemented in ten government secondary schools in the first phase, and another 100 schools will be added by the end of the year. OREI is a noble initiative to provide high-quality education using smart classrooms & technology to enable two-way communication. The project is child-centric, and teaching resources are mapped to the NCERT syllabus, using colloquial Hindi that students in villages can relate to.

The Imagineering Lab of IIT Kanpur developed Shudham, a low-cost a low-cost purifier-cum-cooler. This innovative solution aims to provide affordable & efficient access to clean water for rural households & urban middle-class society. Led by Prof. J. Ramkumar, Dept of Mechanical Engineering & Dr. Amandeep Singh, the team has addressed the limitations of the initial model and improvised it into a low-cost water purifier-cum-cooler that is user-friendly, easy to maintain, and economical.

Dr. Vivek Lal delivered an Institute Lecture on The Future of Engineering". He is United States Technical Team member to the NATO STO and serves on various advisory boards including the International Advisory Group of the US Chamber of Commerce and the Global Board of Directors of the US India Business Council. He also met with Prof. Abhay Karandikar, IITK Director.

Prof. Gautam Biswas gets ASME Heat Transfer Memorial Award 2023 from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in recognition of his contributions to the Heat Transfer Division & wider heat and mass transfer community.

The Opportunity School celebrated its Annual Day that witnessed some great performances by the students. Prof. Abhay Karandikar, IITK Director, was the Chief Guest of the event.

The Center's mission is to promote, facilitate from Indian Knowledge System related studies, research & content development. The center will do research in the domains of Health & Wellness, Mathematics & Astronomy, Sanskrit & Linguistic studies, Consciousness studies, Archaeo-metallurgy & Materials, Darsanas, Acoustics & Music, and Water management systems.

IIT Kanpur hosted the Y20 Consultation supported by the Ministry of Youth Support and Affairs as part of the G20 Presidency of India. The Y20 Consultation provided a platform for young minds to deliberate on three main topics - "Future of Health," "Technologies for Sustainable Future," and "Innovation in Future of Work." Over 1500 youth delegates participated.

The University of Buffalo, the State University of New York signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the IITK-UB Joint Centre of Excellence in Biomedicine & Bioengineering at IITK.

An alumni networking event was held in Melbourne, Australia on 15 March 2023 to strengthen relations and appraise them of the latest developments at the institute.

IIT Kanpur signed an MoU with the Hinduja Group on 4th March 2023. The Hinduja Group will provide mentorship and investment in the startups at the institute , facilitating their growth and expansion on a global level. Mr. Arun Tiwari, Group President, BFSI, Hinduja Group, and Chairman IndusInd Bank was present for the MoU signing.

IIT Kanpur and the University of Alberta, Canada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) towards collaborating for a Joint Degree Program (JDP) and be part of a Joint Research Innovation Network. Under the Joint Degree Program, the faculty members from two universities can supervise a PhD student jointly. This will allow students from either side to visit and carry out research work in the partner university. IIT Kanpur will also collaborate with the University of Alberta in the Joint Research Innovation Network with a focus on developing new, renewable, and efficient energy materials, systems and technologies for the clean energy transition to address the climate issues.

The 11th edition of the annual event, "E-SUMMIT," was organized by IIT Kanpur students from 13th-15th January 2023. Shri` B. V. R. Mohan Reddy, our distinguished alumnus, Founder, Chairman & Board Member-Cyient, was the chief guest for the inauguration session. The event hosted many distinguished speakers and panelists like Mr. Rajiv Batra, Founder of Palo Alto Networks; Mr. Sanjiv Rangrass, Independent Director Zetwerk & former Group Head, ITC; Mr. Ravi Purohit, Vice President & India Head at ColorTokens; Mr. Rishabh Jain, Co-Founder & Director, Kataria Ecotech Pvt Ltd, and Ms. Shweta Bajpai, Vertical Head –Finserv, Media, Travel, Meta India. The Summit had competitions, Industrial conclave, startup expo, talks, panel discussions & workshops.

Prof. Jayant K. Singh was awarded the NASI- Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award 2022, covering both physical and biological sciences. The award is constituted by the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) and is given to an individual researcher for application-oriented innovations.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur has signed an MoU with Apollo Hospitals for research in the clinical application of Artificialintelligence, Telemedicine, Genomics, and other areas of mutual interest in healthcare technology. The MoU was signed by Prof AR Harish, Dean R&D, IIT Kanpur, and Prof. Ganapathy Krishnan, Director of Apollo Telemedicine, Apollo Hospitals.

Prof. Krishanu Biswas, Department of the Materials Science and Engineering for being elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, U.K. His research interests are in understanding the phase transformation of various nanoscale materials prepared via various routes, solidification, mechanical alloying, chemical synthesis or severe plastic deformation. He is the current occupant of Ranjit Singh Chair.

Prof. M Jaleel Akhtar, Department of Electrical Engineering, has been elected as 'IEEE Fellow' for his contributions in microwave planar sensors and nano-composites-based microwave absorbers.

Prof. S Ganesh (Dept of BSBE), Prof. Yogesh M. Joshi (Dept of Chemical Engineering), Prof. Javed Malik (Dept of Earth Sciences) and Prof. Arun Shukla (Dept of BSBE) have been elected as Fellows of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

A three-day literature festival, Akshar, was organized by the Shivani Center to commemorate the centenary year celebration of the life and works of famous Hindi author, Smt. Gaura Pant (‘Shivani’). The event was graced by eminent literary and academic personalities such as, Dr. Mrinal Pande, Dr. Pushpesh Pant, Prof. Shambhunath Tiwari; by poets and performers such as, Shri Veeru Sankar, pankaj Chaturvedi, Dr. Naresh Saxen, et al.

This is in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the fields of engineering and technology. Prof. Katiyar is a faculty at Material Science & Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and works in the areas of Organics Electronics, Electronic Light Emitting Diodes, Organic Thin Film Transistors, Printable Electronics, Organic Solar Cells.

This is in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the fields of engineering and technology. Prof. Singh is the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and works in the areas of material modeling, machine learning, self-assembly, and energy storage. Prof. Singh's desire to innovate disruptive product has led him to found Prescience Insilico Pvt. Ltd, in 2019, for translating the methods and framework for the next generated accelerated drug and material discovery using physics-based methods.

Prof. Nitin Saxena gets elected as the Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). This is in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the fields of engineering and technology. Prof. Saxena is a faculty at the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and works in the areas of Computational Complexity and Algebraic Geometry.

Portescap has been supporting Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur for the last four years on different research initiatives, such as designing and developing a miniature rotary actuator based on flexinol SMA, an adaptive smart stick for sit-to-stand motion, an interactive cloud based diagnostic platform for oral cancer, etc. under #CSR funding.

Prof. Partha P Chakrabarti (former Director IIT Kharagpur) Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The institute honored & felicitated some of the most esteemed faculty for their dedication and excellence in sharing knowledge:- the Distinguished Teacher Award, Excellence-in-Teaching Award, 1989 Batch Faculty Award, and 25 years-long services to the Institute.

The Foundation Stone laying ceremony of the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences & Technology, and Yadupati Singhania Super Speciality Hospital was done by Hon'ble Union Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan on 16 July 2022. The event was graced by the prominent members of the institute and IITK alumni, such as Dr. Radhakrishnan K. Koppilil (Chairman, BoG, IITK), donors Mr. Rakesh Gangwal, Mr. Hemant Jalan, Mr. Muktesh Pant, and Smt. Sushila Singhania, Dr. Nidhipati Singhania (Vice President, JK Organization & Director, JK Cement Ltd).

IIT Kanpur held its 55th Convocation on 29 June 2022. Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder & Chairperson, Narayana Health Care, was the Chief Guest. The event was graced by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of Board of Governors, IITK; BoG members, Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, Shri Pradeep Goyal, Dr. Manoj Gonugunthla, Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Prof. Manas K. Ghorai, and Prof. Bishakh Bhattacharya. Attended by head of the departments, IITK faculty, and parents of graduating students, 1360 students were conferred degrees. Students were also issued digital degrees to all the graduating students using blockchain-driven technology developed at IIT Kanpur. The degrees are based on Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) and unforgeable and globally verified.

Prof. Ashutosh Sharma (BT/CHE/1982) was selected as the President of the Indian National Science Academy in June 2022. He is an Institute Fellow and Distinguished Alumnus of IITK. Prof. Sharma served as the Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. He is a recipient of the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award in engineering sciences for his "original pioneering contribution to the understanding of the behavior of thin films and other highly confined nanoscale systems."
