The written test and interview are scheduled on 27 April 2024 (Saturday) at the DoMS, IIT Kanpur campus.

 

Admission to Ph.D. Programme, DoMS, IIT Kanpur

(Not applicable to NRI/PIO and foreign applicants)

The following stages are involved in the admissions process for the Ph.D. program of DoMS, IIT Kanpur.

STAGE 1:

Apply if you meet the eligibility criteria

An applicant may apply provided he/she meets the following eligibility criteria:

An applicant must have a master’s degree in Management/Industrial Engineering or relevant disciplines in engineering/technology with a minimum of 55 percent marks or 5.5 CPI on a 10 point scale.

OR

Applicants with a bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 75 percent marks/7.5 CPI on a 10 point scale, and a valid GATE score. The requirement of GATE is waived for candidates having bachelor's degree from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).

OR

Applicants with a masters degree in science/arts/commerce, satisfying each of the following criteria may also be considered.

A minimum of 65 percent marks/6.5 CPI in the master’s degree
2.
First division in bachelor’s degree
3.
JRF/95 percentile or higher in GATE or equivalent performance in a relevant national or international level examination.

Candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes who have passed the basic qualifying degree as stated above are eligible to apply irrespective of the marks/CPI and will be considered for admission.

STAGE 2:

Shortlisting of the applicants

The short-listing of applicants for the written test will be based on academic record as well as work experience and the total number of approved seats as well as the number of applicants in each category. Only eligible and completed applications will be considered for short-listing. A committee in-charge of Ph.D. admission will prepare the shortlists. A separate short list for each category will be prepared. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee short-listing for the written test. Only suitable applicants (to be judged by the Ph.D. admission committee) will be called for the written test.

STAGE 3:

Written test and Personal Interview

In order to prepare a merit list for selection, the department will conduct a written aptitude test for the shortlisted applicants. After the written test, a separate shortlist for each category will be prepared, based on which, the personal interview for the applicants will be conducted. Only those who pass the written test will be interviewed. The panels conducting the personal interview will evaluate the academic background of the applicant, his/her general academic proficiency, academic & related publications and such related matters.

STAGE 4:

Selection List Preparation

A merit list will be prepared based on the applicant’s performance in the written test and the personal interview. Aggregation of marks for the eligible applicants (those who were interviewed) will be as per the weights given below.

Applicants belonging to different categories (GN, OBC, SC, ST, (PH)) will be separately merit listed. The cut offs for different categories will be decided by the committee-in-charge for Ph.D. admissions of the DoMS of IIT Kanpur. The approved norms on reservation (OBC: 27%, SC: 15%, ST: 7.5% and PH 3% horizontal across GN, SC, ST and OBC) will be observed. Please check the latest approved norms of eligibility for reservation.

NOTE:

(1)

All short listed applicants qualifying after stage 3 will be considered for the merit list preparation (stage - 4). Stage - 3 will be conducted by personal interview panel approved by the competent authority.

Stages-2, 3 and 4 processes for GN&OBC and SC&ST applicants will be conducted independently, and nowhere throughout the selection process will these two groups (i.e., GN&OBC and SC&ST) be compared for making the merit list.

At any stage during the admissions process or during the Ph.D. program at IIT Kanpur, if it is found that the candidate has misrepresented, falsified or hidden relevant information, his/her candidature/admission would be summarily rejected and the candidate would have to leave the program if he/she has joined the same and no fee deposited will be refunded.
