Research Interest: Public Policy, Public Health, Network and Broadcasting Experience:
Key Achievements & Awards: Dr. Sharma was the founding Director General and Mission Director of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), where he played a pivotal role in creating and rolling out Aadhaar, the world’s largest biometric identity system. As Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, he advanced key Digital India platforms — including Digital Locker, eSign, eKYC, and contributed to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) ecosystem. Dr. Sharma spearheaded the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) during his association with NHA. Dr. Sharma has been awarded several honors including: Voice & Data Lifetime Achievement Award (2022), Economic Times Telecom Award for Lifetime Achievement (2022), Voice and Data "Telecom Person of the Year" award (2019), Distinguished Alumnus Award by IIT Kanpur (2016), and Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Public Administration (2008). Dr. Sharma has also authored a book titled “The Making of Aadhaar: World's Largest Identity Platform”. |
