IIT Kanpur proudly celebrates this singular achievement by hosting Dr. Sharma, as the keynote speaker in the prestigious P D Murti Memorial Lecture Series.

Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma is an IAS officer of the 1978 batch and has contributed in various social reforms and policymaking. He headed the TRAI for five years, from August 2015 to September 2020 and played a major role in making India digitally advanced while working as Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology. He crafted various policies for digital payments, which led to the rise of the UPI payment system in India. Before 2013, Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma worked in one of India's leading projects, Aadhaar. He worked as Director General & Mission, Director of the Unique Identification Authority of India from 2009 – 2013, and played a major role in the design and implementation of Aadhaar. In September 2020, he published a book in collaboration with Rupa Publications, " The Making of Aadhaar: World's Largest Identity Platform".
