Slide background

The centre focuses on developing improved imaging technologies, novel measurement configurations, data interpretation algorithms for enhanced diagnostics, and specialised instrumentation. MedTech tools, including microscopy, endoscopy, ultrasound, MRI, and X-ray, are critical for correct diagnosis and follow-up treatment. While these tools are serving to the best of their capabilities, they have limitations with the quality of resolution, volume imaging, and ease of use for the healthcare provider and the patient. The CoE aims to address these problems by providing engineering solutions to overcome the limitations of the existing tools and innovating novel tools with better performance metrics.

Ongoing activities
  • A new technique maps the sensitivity of the polarization state on the sample phase profile interferometrically onto the polarization state of the light.
  • A microscope slide reader capable of rendering a true color image of the microscopic slide at 40x magnification.
  • Developing devices for Neonatal Retinal imaging in collaboration with Sankara Eye Hospital.
  • Developing a device for an IR-based vein imaging system in collaboration with Dr. Dokania from Kanpur and Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Sciences in Trivandrum.
  • Collaborating with Apollo Hospital in Lucknow to develop a device for localizing and identifying substantial blood flow in vein-artery fistula for effective dialysis.
  • Developing an Indigenous Endoscope with Infrared Vasculature Visualization and Early Cancer Detection Capabilities for the GI Tract.
  • Working on a next-generation indigenous endoscope with multiwavelength capabilities to enable precise visualization of vasculature and early cancerous changes in the Gastrointestinal tract.
Flagship project

Single optical fibre-based imaging device

The ability to image inaccessible regions in laparoscopic surgery can be a game-changer in the medical domain. A single optical fibre-based endoscope is being developed with a sub-200-micrometre-diameter fibre, that can play a significant role in multiple procedures, including brain surgery.
