The CoE for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research is creating comprehensive computational and experimental frameworks that unify appropriate MRI methods, image analysis, model building and visualisation algorithms, and simulation techniques based on computational mechanics. It aims to provide a highly efficient tool for clinicians to diagnose disease and assess its progression, thereby enabling personalised therapeutic measures. The CoE is developing affordable medical support devices like LVAD, IV-LITHOTRIPSY, Heart Valves, Pacemakers, etc., to meet the demands of low-income countries.

Flagship project

Percutaneous Mechanical Circulatory Support

A miniature device to pump blood from the left ventricle to the ascending aorta is mapped out. The planned device will include subsystems that may serve as critical components of other medical devices and interventions, such as intravascular lithotripsy, intra-arterial balloon pumps, stent delivery, and dental equipment.
