The establishment of the IIT Kanpur medical school is supported by prominent IIT Kanpur alumni, philanthropists, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and government funding. The funds being raised are primarily intended to cover fixed assets and address the working capital gap for the initial 3-4 years. The Institute has secured funding through donations for naming rights associated with the school, hospital, buildings, and centers (Contributions). The Institute actively seeks support from alumni, corporates (CSR), and philanthropists to create this essential healthcare facility at IIT Kanpur, which will serve the healthcare needs of the community, the state, and the neighbouring areas.

Founders Circle and The Alumni Contribution

The Founders Circle recognizes a distinguished group of leadership donors who have played a significant role in launching the medical school. The Institute expresses its gratitude to the Founders Circle members for their vision, generosity, and ongoing support. The founding members are esteemed alumni of the Institute: Mr. Muktesh Pant (BT/CHE/1976), Dr. Dev Joneja (BT/ME/1984), Mr. Hemant Jalan (BT/CHE/1977), and Mr. Anil Bansal (BT/MSE/1977).

Mr. Muktesh Pant (BT/CHE/1976)

Mr. Pant donated towards the establishment of the medical school from the Micky and Vinita Pant Charitable Fund. Mr. Pant held numerous senior positions in premier multinational companies such as Hindustan Unilever Limited, PepsiCo, and Reebok. He went on to lead YUM! China, as the CEO in 2015, is widely acclaimed for the phenomenal growth of the company's flagship brands, including KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, in China.

 

Dr. Dev Joneja (BT/ME/1984)

Dr. Dev Joneja currently serves as the Chief Risk Officer at Exodus Point Capital Management. Before this role, he held the position of Global Head of Risk and Analytics at Millennium Management LLC, where he also served as Senior Managing Director. Dr. Joneja has also worked as a Research Analyst at Barclays Capital and as a faculty member at the Graduate School of Business at Columbia University in New York.

 

Mr. Hemant Jalan (BT/CHE/1977)

Mr. Hemant Jalan founded Indigo Paints in 2000. The company has experienced significant growth over the years, leading to a successful IPO in early 2021. Mr. Jalan currently holds the position of Managing Director at the company.

 

Mr Anil Bansal (BT/MSE/1977) and Mrs. Kumud Bansal

Mr. Anil Bansal is the President of First National Realty Management, a company that owns and manages commercial properties across the United States. He founded Indus American Bank and has also invested in numerous IT companies. In addition, he sits on the boards of various corporations and charity organizations.

 

Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology

Mr. Rakesh Gangwal (BT/ME/1975)
Mr. Rakesh Gangwal, a distinguished alumnus of IIT Kanpur, has made one of the largest personal donations for the establishment of the medical school. In honor of his significant contributions, the medical school was named after him. He is an Indian American billionaire businessman, co-founder, and 37% owner of Indigo Airlines, and former chief executive officer and chairman of US Airways Group.

Mr. Deepak Narula (BT/EE/1985), founder and managing partner of Metacapital Management, donated to the establishment of the medical school.

Mr. Gopal Sutwala (BT/CE/1973), the Co-Promoter at Kanpur Angel Network, donated generously for a separate ward to support the treatment of the ‘Economically Weaker Section' at the medical school.

 

JK Cement Limited, a reputed firm in Kanpur, has extended generous support to build a 450-bed super-specialty hospital on the medical school campus. This hospital will be named after the Late Mr. Yadupati Singhania, a distinguished alumnus of the institute (BT/CE/1977) and an illustrious industrialist who played a critical role in setting up the J.K Cement Ltd.

Mr. Manoj Gupta and Mr. Neeraj Gupta, co-founders of Opalescent IT Solutions Inc., have established a dedicated EWS (Economically Weaker Section) ward at Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology (GSMST).

Mr. Vikram Tannan, gave a generous donation for “Vikram Tannan Dialysis facility, Urology Operation theatre, and Urology research”.

Dr. Vijay Parikh (BT/CHE/1982), Managing Director at TRANSCONT (INDIA) FINVEST PRIVATE LIMITED, contributed to the medical school.

Mr. Narayana Murthy (MT/EE/1969)
The founder of Infosys generously supported the Center of Excellence in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease Research.

 

Mrs. Sudha Murty
Generously contributed to the flagship project “Hridyantra.” She is well-known for her philanthropic activities and prolific writing, and is the Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, a not-for-profit organization in India. In 1996, Mrs. Murty started the “Infosys Foundation” with a mission to support the underprivileged sections of society and has been serving as a trustee of this foundation.

IIT Kanpur and ICICI Foundation, for Inclusive Growth, the CSR arm of ICICI Bank, have signed an MoU to work together on a Digital Health Stack project towards advancing and strengthening healthcare. The Stack aims at bringing a paradigm transformation in the space of public healthcare by combining technology, medical research, and innovation. The project, housed at IITK, involves the development of MedTech devices, improving point-of-care services, and strengthening the public healthcare capacity. Further, it will help in the detection of chronic diseases through AI-integrated devices.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

REC Limited , generously supported the construction of studio apartments for the resident doctors.

ICICI Bank , generously supported the setting up of a Pathology lab facility at the health center, IITK

The HDFC bank , donated generously to establish an emergency and trauma care center in the medical school.

IBM India Private Limited , supported the construction of the academic complex of the Gangwal School. This complex will house state-of-the-art research laboratories and academic units.

The Pehel Foundation, the CSR arm of PNB Housing Finance,
donated to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure at Yadupati Singhania Hospital, IIT Kanpur. Through this CSR initiative, the Pehel Foundation has contributed to the procurement of operating theatre infrastructure and essential medical equipment, significantly enhancing the hospital's ability to serve patients effectively.
