Instituted through generous contributions from IIT Kanpur alumni, Prof. T. R. Viswanathan Young Faculty Fellowship in Teaching Excellence honours Prof. T. R. Viswanathan, a founding faculty member of IIT Kanpur. The Fellowship recognises faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and encourages innovation in pedagogy, while acknowledging those who have made a lasting impact through their dedication to teaching and mentorship.
Prof. Viswanathan served as a Professor of Electrical Engineering, Head of the Computer Centre, and Dean of R&D at IIT Kanpur. He was known for his work in analog integrated circuit design and for mentoring graduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Prof. Viswanathan spent 15 years in industry, contributing to R&D, product design, and management, and retired as Director of R&D at Texas Instruments. He later served as a Partner at Artiman Ventures. He earned a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Madras (1956), receiving the Jagirdar of Arni Gold Medal, and completed his degree in Electrical & Communications Engineering from IISc Bangalore (1959). He received his M.Sc. (1961) and Ph.D.(1964) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and was a Research Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas at Austin, where he held the Silicon Laboratories Endowed Chair for thirteen years.

Prof. Amit Verma

(March 2023 - March 2026)

Prof. Amit Verma from the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, has research interest in Materials Growth for semiconductor device fabrication, characterization and modeling. He is a recipient of the Early Career Research Award from the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). Dr. Verma holds an Integrated M.Tech. in Engineering Physics from IIT-BHU (2010), a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame (2015), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Cornell University.

Prof. S. K. Misra

(March 2023 - March 2026)

Prof. S. K. Misra from the Department of Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, IIT Kanpur, has research interests in biosensors, personalized medicine, bubble-assisted therapies, 3D-printed biomedical devices, carbon-based composites, advanced drug delivery systems, and functional nanocomposites.He is also the recipient of the prestigious Ramalingaswami Fellowship (2019-2024) from the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. He received his doctoral degree from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore in 2013.
