Prof. N. Sathyamurthy Endowment Lecture Series

The lecture series has been instituted by the students, collaborators, family, friends, and well-wishers of Professor N. Sathyamurthy. Through this endowment lecture series, they seek to celebrate his sustained contributions to the advancement of theoretical and computational chemistry in India, while also acknowledging the pioneering role of IIT Kanpur in realizing this vision.
Professor N. Sathyamurthy earned his M.Sc. from Annamalai University (1972) and his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University, USA (1975). He later worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Nobel Laureate John C. Polanyi at the University of Toronto (1975-78).
He joined the Department of Chemistry at IIT Kanpur in 1978, became Professor in 1985, Institute Chair Professor in 2007, and Institute Fellow in 2013. Known for his excellence in teaching and research, he was also a supportive mentor to many students.
At IIT Kanpur, he served as Head of the Department of Chemistry and Dean of Faculty Affairs. In 2007, he became the Founder Director of IISER Mohali and led the institute for two terms, during which it grew into one of India's leading academic institutions.

Prof. Kalidas Sen

Prof. Kalidas Sen spoke on "Electron Density, Information Theoretical Measures and Structural Properties of Confined Atoms and Molecules". He is a Professor at the University of Hyderabad, Telangana. He received his Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur and F.A.Sc., F.N.A.. Prof. Sen is a recipient of several prestigious fellowships, including the Humboldt, Commonwealth, Fulbright, and NSERC Canada Research Fellowships. He has also held the DAAD Research Professorship, the Indo-US Professorship of the American Physical Society, the Visiting Fellowship of the Office of Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, and the J.C. Bose National Fellowship.
