Mr. Rakesh Gangwal

Mr. Rakesh Gangwal is an Indian - American businessman who is the co-founder and 37% owner of IndiGo airline.





Profile

Mr. Gangwal did his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1975. He subsequently went on to earn his MBA degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Worldspan Technologies-a provider of travel technology and information services to the travel and transportation industry, where he played the role of the chairman, president and chief executive officer. In 1984, he joined United Airlines as manager, strategic planning. He held a series of positions at the company.He was also the president and CEO of US Airways Group from 1998 . He resigned from the group in 2001.



Before joining US Airways, Mr. Gangwal worked as an executive vice president for Air France in the starting of November 1994. Earlier, Mr. Gangwal served as a financial analyst in the product development group of Ford Motor Co and a production and planning engineer with Philips India Ltd, before joining United Airlines.

Mr. Gangwal has served on the board of advisers of several companies and universities/schools. He was conferred with the Distinguished Alumnus Award of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 2000.
