Dr. Vijay Mahajan

Dr. Vijay Mahajan is a professor of marketing at The University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business. He teaches courses on marketing management and strategy. He holds the John P. Harbin Centennial Chair in Business and is a former associate dean of research for McCombs. He has also served as dean of the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.

Profile

Dr. Mahajan received a Ph.D. in management from Texas McCombs in 1975 and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from UT's Cockrell School of Engineering in 1972. He holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in chemical engineering (1970) from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India. Dr. Mahajan's research interests include marketing strategy, product diffusion, and research methodology. His work has appeared in the Harvard Business Review and a multitude of academic journals, including the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Marketing, Marketing Science, and Management Science, and he has served on the editorial boards of all major marketing journals, and as editor of the Journal of Marketing Research. For Management Science, Dr. Mahajan served as department editor (Planning and Forecasting) from 1987 to 1991. He also served on the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council for the Arab World from 2012 to 2014. Dr. Mahajan is a world-renowned consultant for both government and industry, having offered executive development programs in the U.S., Asia, Europe, and South America.

A fellow of the American Marketing Association (AMA), Dr. Mahajan has received several AMA awards, including lifetime achievement awards for his research contributions. In 2000, the AMA established the Dr. Vijay Mahajan Award for career contributions to marketing strategy. More than 120 global research institutions, universities, and think tanks, including the World Bank, have invited him to present his work.

Dr. Mahajan's research has been reported and reviewed in dozens of media outlets in many countries, including CBS, BBC, NPR, Wall Street Journal, NY Times, etc. Dr. Mahajan has also written or edited 14 books that have been translated into 13 languages. His 2005 book, "The 86% Solution," earned the AMA's Leonard L. Berry Marketing Book Award. Two other releases, "Convergence Marketing" and "Africa Rising," were among the finalists for the same award.In 2006, the Indian Institute of Technology ,Kanpur presented him with the Distinguished Alumnus Award for his contributions to management research.
