Overview:

The Fluid Mechanics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical Engineering is an instructional laboratory for both undergraduate and graduate students. Presently, it provides support to the undergraduate course ME333 and the graduate course ME649. It provides a wide array of experiments designed to deepen the understanding of the concepts that the students are introduced to in the classroom, and also an opportunity to explore the broader area of fluid mechanics.

  1. Jet impact on flat and curved surfaces
  2. Measurement of drag on a circular cylinder in high Reynolds number flow
  3. Energy loss measurements in subcritical and supercritical open channel flow
  4. Measurement of fluid viscosity
  5. Determination of friction factor as a function of Reynolds number in pipe flow
  6. Studying laminar-turbulent transition for flow in a tube
  7. Study of a Turbulent Mixing Layer (ME – 649)
