Consulting
We offer innovative solutions that are also technically sound. Further, the large numbers of well-equipped facilities across the department and institute levels give us a decisive edge while taking on challenging problems. Our experienced faculties are also well known for their integrity and trustworthiness. Our department has a large number of niche experts in unique areas and often they are simply the best people for the job.
To find out how the experts at IIT Kanpur can help you succeed more, please get in touch with our faculty members.
Technology Development
We aim to solve problems faced by the industry along with the fundamental problems of science, and for us, the delivery of knowledge is as important as creation of knowledge. Our experts will be able to identify the technological and scientific issues involved and address them accordingly. Even if these are fundamental issues and require great depth of knowledge to make them work advantageously.
Active Collaborations
Our faculties often collaborate with organizations worldwide to overcome challenges faced by industry and research laboratories spanning both fundamental and applied science.
Interdisciplinary Research
Interdisciplinary research carried out by our faculties can adequately address the modern technological challenges arising at the interface of different engineering and science disciplines.
Engineering Solutions
Besides the large industries, we are keen to work with small and medium sized companies. Besides technology development and troubleshooting, our faculties actively helped them with calibration, testing, infrastructure development, improving process efficiency and safety audits.

News & Events
Information related to recent news, department events and latest announcements related to ME at IIT Kanpur are available here.
Read the latest news stories, check the schedule of the next ME Seminar, and learn about various other events within the department here.
Association of Mechanical Engineering (AME)
The association of mechanical engineering (AME) at IIT Kanpur is a student body. It routinely organizes workshops on various design and simulation software like Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, Abaqus, MSC Adams, etc, which provides much needed exposure to the real life engineering problems, both technical as well as managerial kind by organizing industrial tours visits, lectures on topics of general interests and seminars of specific interest etc.
Besides this, it also organizes fresher's welcome, farewell for the graduating students and happy hours throughout the year. It also serves as an interface between the students and the faculty and strives for improvement in student-faculty interaction. For more information, visit here.
Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
The Society of Automotive Engineers at IIT Kanpur is a collegiate chapter of SAE India. It was established in January 2011 by the collective efforts of a group of students with a strong urge to complement the theoretical knowledge imparted in classrooms, emphasizing on the practical aspects of engineering. Their idea was to develop an automotive culture revolutionized the institute and SAE IIT Kanpur started with an initial strength of over 150 student members.
One of the most important qualities of SAE IIT Kanpur is its diversity with students from almost all departments of the institute. Any passionate student of the institute can be a participating member of this society. It provides a platform for students to share and increase their engineering know-how through increased interaction between students at all levels via group activity, lectures, workshops, brainstorming sessions and many institute level competitions.
More information is available here .
On Research Scholars Day, we organize a poster session for the final year M.Tech students and talks delivered by the senior Ph.D. candidates on their ongoing research activities. The purpose of the research scholar day is to promote research awareness among the new postgraduate students. Usually, most of our faculty members attend it, which promotes a strong student-faculty interaction.
Most of the times, the feedback given by the faculty members during the poster session and talks motivates the research scholars to further their scientific/engineering advancement on their subjects.
