Promotion of Equitable Access to Affordable Healthcare in Uttar Pradesh

A focused session on the “Promotion of Equitable Access to Affordable Healthcare in Uttar Pradesh” was conducted under the WCF initiative. This workshop aimed to bring together various stakeholders: policymakers, healthcare professionals, private sector leaders, and researchers to address pressing healthcare challenges. The session brought together experts to discuss real-world innovations and strategies aimed at improving accessibility and affordability of medical devices and diagnostics, particularly in resource-limited settings. The discussion began with case studies presented by Professor/s Sinha and Kelkar, showcasing impactful innovations such as Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD), handheld X-ray systems, ECG patches, and strip-based diagnostic tests. These examples demonstrated how indigenous innovation can significantly reduce costs while maintaining clinical effectiveness.

The event provided valuable insights into the integration of innovation, affordability, and scalability in medical device development. It reinforced the critical role of indigenous solutions in addressing healthcare challenges and highlighted the need for collaborative efforts across academia, industry, and policy frameworks to ensure widespread impact.

Advancing Maternal Health: Innovations & Collaborative Solutions

The “Advancing Maternal Health: Innovations & Collaborative Solutions” workshop, organized by the Women’s Collective Forum (WCF) in collaboration with GSMST, successfully brought together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners to address critical gaps in maternal healthcare in India. The event served as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, focusing on innovative, scalable approaches to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes, particularly in underserved and low-resource settings.

The workshop underscored the urgent need to strengthen maternal health systems through a combination of technological innovation, community engagement, and evidence-based policy interventions. Participants highlighted how emerging tools such as telemedicine, AI-driven diagnostics, and point-of-care technologies are transforming the delivery of maternal healthcare by enabling early risk detection, improving accessibility, and supporting frontline healthcare providers.

Session 1: Tackling Challenging Pregnancies focused on issues of unwanted fertility and adolescent maternal and newborn care. The discussions emphasized the importance of addressing social determinants of health, including early marriage, limited access to reproductive health services, and gender-based inequalities. Insights were shared on the role of participatory women’s groups in empowering communities and improving health-seeking behaviors. The session also highlighted the need for targeted interventions that address fertility patterns, migration, and health disparities, particularly among adolescents and marginalized populations.

Session 2: Infections and Maternal Health examined the challenges of managing infections during pregnancy, especially in resource-constrained environments. Experts discussed advancements in rapid and low-cost diagnostic solutions, including the use of cutting-edge technologies such as CRISPR for early and accurate detection of infectious diseases. The session also brought attention to the continued burden of HIV/AIDS and opportunistic infections, emphasizing the importance of integrated care models and improved diagnostic infrastructure to reduce risks for both mothers and newborns.

The Women’s Collective Forum (WCF) is a Private Limited, non-government company committed to advancing gender equality, equity, and addressing critical challenges in public health, education, and economic empowerment. At its core, WCF is dedicated to fostering inclusive development through innovative, scalable solutions that empower marginalized communities and address systemic inequities.
